Twitter changes- consolidation is the name of the game

Bicycle Design Twitter avatarsIf you follow Bicycle Design on Twitter, you may have noticed a change yesterday. Instead of the Bicycle Design logo in your twitter stream, you will find a shot of me on my bike…with a big goofy grin on my face (which often appears while I am riding). The account name has changed too. The old @BicycleDesign account is now @JCTdesign and my old @JCTdesign account is now abandoned and sitting idle at @JamesThomasC.  Yeah, it’s a little confusing with the name swapping (and somewhat of a mess while in transition), but the goal for me was to consolidate all of my Twitter activity into a single account. It is something I have considered for a long time, and while there were legitimate reasons to keep them separate for so long, in the end my desire to streamline and simplify my online presence won out.

So what does that mean for all of you who follow the blog (now me) on Twitter? Well…I will still be posted a LOT about bicycle design, but you will also see additional design content that relates to my other interests (and projects). As a product designer, I am influenced by art, design, architecture, nature, and everything else around me. All of those influences mix together in my head regardless of what project I am working on, so I was getting tired of maintaining two design-focused accounts with significant overlap. Much better to simplify, and have a single account at @JCTdesign  that covers everything that interests me  in the world of design.

If there is any interest, I can set up the @BicycleDesign account (which is basically a placeholder now) to automatically tweet when a new post appears on the blog. There wouldn’t be any additional content from me, just a notification on Twitter when there is a new post at bicycle Design. I will be tweeting about new blog content at @JCTdesign too, so the other account would serve anyone who wants only post notifications and nothing else. Let me know what you think. As always, reader feedback is greatly appreciated.
